The National Memorial Arboretum is the UK’s year-round Centre of Remembrance; a spiritually uplifting place which honours the fallen recognises service and sacrifice, and fosters pride in our country. The Arboretum is part of The Royal British Legion family of charities. Sited in the heart of the Nation, with 50,000 maturing trees and over 200 significant memorials, it is a beautiful and lasting tribute to those who serve their country or who have died in conflict.
Over the last ten years the Arboretum has been able to amass a large archive of images. Each of the pictures taken at the Arboretum, like its visitors, is able to tell a story, perhaps one of comradeship, hope, reflection and in some cases grief.
A popular event, the NMA Friends’ Photographic Competition gives photographers, of all ages and abilities, the opportunity to show off their photographic skills and pictures. The 2012 competition themes are ‘Remembering’ and ‘Nature provides the best monument’, we are also accepting entrants in an audio visual category. This year through the generosity of sponsor’s, entrants will have the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes, including a mini break, studio time and framing vouchers. All photographs will be displayed in an exhibition at the Arboretum in November, either mounted or in portfolios. If taking fantastic photographs runs in your family, please note, all under 18 entrants are free.
So, if you’ve taken a fabulous photograph, why not enter it into the 2012 Friends Photographic Competition. For full details including themes, a list of prizes please visit our website. (www.thenma.org.uk)
